He’s been commended for his onscreen love affairs on the hit medical drama Grey’s Anatomy. Sadly it did not appear to reflect in Kevin McKidd’s real life as reports state that his wife Jane has filed for divorce weeks before their 17th wedding anniversary.

Jane filed for legal separation right before their July 1 wedding anniversary, as the couple has been separated since October. The mom of two is seeking spousal support and joint custody of their children.

Kevin, 42, and Jane wed in 1999, and collectively they have two kids, son Joseph, 16, and daughter Iona, 14.

Kevin and Jane are determined to quit their union and look forward to continuing to co-parent their kids, as that is their top priority, and will to continue to have a close and affectionate relationship.

Kevin McKidd was born and raised in Elgin, in the north-east of Scotland. He is a television and film actor, director and an occasional singer. As well as his popularity in Grey’s Anatomy, he is also well known for his other roles like the 2007 NBC Series Journeyman where he played the role of Dan Vasser and the 2005-2007 historical drama series Rome.

The Scottish family was formally sworn as American citizens in 2015 after an impressive and emotional ceremony at the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services office in Washington, D.C.

Over the years, Kevin also appeared to balance his celebrity lifestyle alongside his family responsibilities and bagged parts in movies including Hannibal Rising and The Last Legion.

In 2008, the Scotsman’s efforts were rewarded for his hard work and onscreen performances as he joined the cast of Fox’s mega-hit TV series Grey’s Anatomy as a recurring character but was immediately promoted to a regular role on the series.

His time on the show has found him in a passionate love affair with Dr. Christina Yang (Sandra Oh) as the new head of injury operation and eventually, chief of surgery.
