According to Russian Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko, Russian football fans should expect to see a revamped national squad in September. The squad is going to be made up of only players who are willing to play proudly for their country in the international scene.

“We will in see a revamped football team in September” Vitaly Mutko, who is also the president of the RFU (Russian Football Union), said. “We need new guys that have lower game skills but enormous desire to play for their country.”

“I have asked clubs to watch the behavior of their players closely. The clubs have already started taking action in this regard.”

“I believe that in the near future we will arrange talks with these clubs in order to get the players who are ready to make money by playing football and not spoiling the image of the marvelous sport,” the minister added.

Mutko’s statement comes following an incident involving two national team players Alexander Kokorin and Pavel Mamaev, who were said to have spent €250,000 on champagne during a party in Monaco following their poor performance at Euro 2016 according to news portal.

On Tuesday Kokorin and Mamaev ordered 500 bottles of Armand de Brignac costing 500 euros each.

According to an eyewitness, the champagne was served while the Russian national anthem was played.

“It is not possible to change everything instantly. To progress, we need to leave the result of Euro 2016 behind and define the new direction of our football.” Mutko said when speaking about the reformation.

“We have unmotivated players. Players who have no desire to play for the national team. The most important task is to look for a new head coach and pick only guys, who have the desire to play for the national squad.” he concluded

The incident with Mamaev and Kokorin received a public outcry especially after the poor performance of the national squad at the ongoing Euro 2016 tournament in France.
