Spanish tennis legend Rafael Nadal, world’s No.9, needed only 55 minutes to qualify for the quarterfinals of ATP’s Brisbane tournament (Australia)  after he scored 6-1, 6-1 against German rival Mischa Zverev (ATP’s 51).

‘It’s so special to be back… It means everything to me. … I hope to play my best (against Raonic).’, stated Rafael after the match.

The Spanish athlete will next face the world No. 3 Milos Raonic in this tune-up up for the Australian Open which begins on Jan. 16.

During his 2017 debut match Canadian Milos Raonic, who is also the tournament’s favorite defeated Diego Schwartzman (Argentina) with a score of 6-3, 6-2.

In other matches of the optimum, the Austrian Dominic Thiem (N.4) defeated Australian Samuel Groth by 7-6 (7/5), 6-3, Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov scored a victory against Frenchman Nicolas Mahut with 6-2, 6-4.

Raonic and Nadal (the fifth favorite) will become opponents in the quarterfinals, the confrontation becoming their eighth duel between. The Iberian is the current leader of the competition with 6-1 in the matches.

Thiem and Dimitrov will also serve one of the most interesting confrontations after the Austrian won last year in the Acapulco quarters.

The other two-quarters will be conducted by Jordan Thompson (Australia) – Kei Nishikori (Japan / N. 3) and Stan Wawrinka (Switzerland) – Kyle Edmund (UK).

Rafael Nadal reached Brisbane with a good amount of confidence in order to start, in a new way, the ATP 2017 season.
