The American sports is going through some major changes this week. Reports say that the Rams will hire a new defensive coordinator.
On Thursday, ESPN reports that Wade Phillips will be hired. For a long time, he was a NFL coach.
The team will also have a new coach, Sean McVay, 30. The will work together.
Until now, Gregg Williams was the defensive coordinator. Last week, he moved to the Cleveland Browns.
The 69-year-old Phillips has been a NFL coach since 1976. Since then, he switched seven teams. From 1993 until 1994 he was coach at Denver Broncos, from 1998 to 2000 at Buffalo Bills and from 2007 to 2010 at Dallas Cowboys. In 1985, he was interim coach at New Orleans Saints. In 2003, at Atlanta Falcons and in 2013 for Houston Texas.
In 2015, he won the award for the best assistant coach of the year.
After his contract with Denver, rumors say he was in talks with Washington Reskins.
Phillips will join the team in fall for its 39th season. He will have a strong team by his side, including Robert Quinn and Aaron Donald.
Fans will wait to see what scheme they will choose, Phillips has a 3-4 defense, while the Rams have a 4-3 one. He declared last year that no matter what, he wants to fit the preferences of the players and work with his team: “We try to fit what the players can do in the defense. If a guy is a power guy, we try to let him be that. It’s all what individual players can do.”
