The chief of Samsung Group was taken into custody on Friday after he was investigated for corruption.

Lee Jae-Yong has accused that his alleged acts of corruption helped the removal of the South Korean president. The justice officials from Seoul declared that it was necessary for Lee to be arrested, in the light of new accusations and new evidence, said a spokesman for the Court.

The inheritor of Samsung Group is accused that he offered the equivalent of 35 million euros to a company and to several foundations owned by an old friend of the president, Park Geun-Hye, in exchange for supporting the public trust of pensions in a controversial project of fusion of two of the Samsung subsidiaries. The 48-year-old vice-president of the giant was incarcerated in a center for provisory detention after he appeared in front of the judges in Seoul on Thursday and they analyzed the request of the arrest made by the investigators.

Lee Jae-Yong is the real commander of the Group after his father suffered a heart attack 3 years ago.

His detention is a big hit for Samsung, the biggest producers of smartphones and flat screened TVs in the world. Although his retaining is not expected to affect somehow the daily activity at the Group, the specialists claim that this event could slow down some strategic decisions made by the giant.

The authorities have 10 days to accuse Lee and start a trial in court against him, but they could ask for an extension. After the official accusations, the court should rule the case within 3 months.
