The French Minister of Education, Jean-Michel Blanquer, announced that cellphones and smartphones will soon be banned in schools and colleges, at the beginning of 2018.
The intention to ban mobile phones in schools has been discussed since the election campaign of new president Emmanuel Macron.
Starting with the 2018 school year, the French Minister of National Education is planning to enforce this measure.
“We work on this matter, it can take different forms. You may need it for educational purposes in emergency situations, so mobile phones have to be banned”, said Jean-Michel Blanquer.
In most European countries, mobiles can be used during classes, but only for educational purposes or in emergency situations.
